Transplant - Day +1 - Out of the Hospital

Mom received her second round of stem cell infusions today and is now done with the actual transplant phase. Things went a little better today than yesterday; although she did still get sick towards the end of the infusion. She was feeling better after the infusion and was able to eat salmon for dinner once again to celebrate.

Since everything has gone fairly smoothly and according to plan thus far, the hospital decided that Mom could be released into out-patient care. She officially checked out of the hospital this evening and is now back at their "home away from home" at Pete Gross House. She was anxious to get out of the hospital routine and back into a somewhat more normal resemblance of everyday life.

She will still have daily appointments at the SCCA clinic to keep an eye on her progress. For now, we're waiting to see the full effects of all of the chemotherapy from the past week. As the infused stem cells begin to go to work restoring her immune system, she will slowly begin the recovery phase. Depending on how things go, she may very well need to check back into the hospital at some point in the future. We were assured that this is a fairly common occurrence and not to be alarmed should in-patient care be required again at some later date.

  1. So happy to hear of yesterday's improvement. And not just one walk, but two! Talk about fighting the good fight. Paula, your new name is Road Runner. I think you should take pictures, Chris. At least pictures of Paula in her various hats. Hard to think of it this way right now, but you may later smile about the hats. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sally
